Example of Product Design Lead Job Description


  • Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats. 
  • Role mission: Goals, team, and resources to make it happen. 


  • Lead the design strategy and vision for the product, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  •  Direct and oversee the execution of design projects, from concept to delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  •  Conduct and guide user research activities to gain insights and inform design decisions.
  •  Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define requirements and prioritize features.
  •  Drive the creation of user-centered design solutions, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs.
  • Advocate for design excellence and user experience best practices within the organization.
  •  Mentor and support other designers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.

  •  Expertise in developing workflows, interaction flows, information architecture, and navigational flows.
  • Mastery of design tools and software, such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design principles and best practices.
  •  Experience with agile methodologies and working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  •  Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions to stakeholders.
  •  Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  •  Creative thinking and ability to generate innovative design concepts.
  •  Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  •  4+ years of experience in product design or a related field.

Nice to Have:

  •  Experience with prototyping tools like InVision, Principle, or Proto.io.
  • Knowledge of front-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  •  Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
  • Experience designing for multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and desktop.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines.
  • Experience with motion design and animation.
  • Participation in design communities, conferences, or workshops.
  •  Familiarity with user interface (UI) design trends and emerging technologies.
  •  Experience with user testing and iteration based on feedback.
  •  Proficiency in additional design tools or software.
  •  Previous experience in startup or high-growth environments.
  •  Contributions to open-source projects or design portfolios.
