Example of a 3D Artist Job Description


  • Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats.
  • Role mission: Goals, team and resources to make it happen.


  • Collaborate with the creative team to conceptualize and develop 3D character designs that align with the project's theme, target audience, and brand identity.
  • Generate 3D models, textures, and rigs of characters, considering factors such as anatomy, proportions, and style guidelines.
  •  Utilize 3D software such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, or ZBrush to sculpt, model, and texture characters with attention to detail and artistic vision.
  • Rig characters for animation, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skeletal structures and controls for realistic movement.
  •  Collaborate closely with animators to ensure character models are animation-ready and can be smoothly integrated into production pipelines.
  •  Iterate and refine character designs based on feedback from stakeholders, maintaining consistency and quality throughout the project.

  •  Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in 3D character modeling and texturing or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, or a relevant discipline.
  • Proficiency in 3D software such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, ZBrush, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling and texturing principles, including topology, UV mapping, and material creation.
  • Ability to create detailed and realistic 3D character models and textures that meet artistic and technical requirements.
  • Knowledge of character rigging and animation principles to ensure models are animation-ready.
  •  Experience with both organic and hard surface modeling techniques.
  •  Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.
  •  Capacity to accept and incorporate feedback to improve 3D modeling and texturing quality.
  •  Portfolio showcasing a range of 3D character models, textures, and rigging work.


  •  Proficiency in additional 3D software tools such as Substance Painter, Mudbox, or Mari.
  • Experience with character animation and rigging techniques.
  • Familiarity with real-time rendering engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity for interactive applications.
  • Background in traditional art or sculpture, contributing to artistic sensibilities and attention to detail in 3D modeling work.
