My client is a well-established, independently owned communications consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering strategic public relations and reputation management programmes across corporate, business, and consumer-facing sectors. Known for senior-level involvement, rigorous thinking, and high standards of delivery, the agency is in a period of sustained growth and is expanding its senior team to support increasingly complex client mandates.

They are now seeking an experienced Senior Account Manager to play a pivotal role within a growing corporate and business communications practice. This is a senior, hands-on position combining client leadership, strategic counsel, and operational responsibility, with scope to influence how the team works as it continues to scale.

The successful candidate will take ownership of multiple client relationships, acting as a trusted day-to-day adviser while also contributing to longer-term strategy, planning, and performance. You will work closely with senior leadership, effectively operating as a second-in-command on key accounts and helping to shape best practice across the team.

The role

  • In this role, you will be responsible for leading the execution of integrated communications programmes, from insight and planning through to delivery and evaluation. This will include overseeing message development, content creation, proactive media engagement, issues handling, and reporting against agreed objectives.
  • You will be expected to maintain a strong external focus, staying close to the news agenda and identifying timely opportunities across national, business, sectoral, and regional media. Building and sustaining productive relationships with journalists will be central to your success, as will your ability to translate complex business issues into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Client management is a core part of the role. You will regularly advise senior stakeholders, prepare them for media engagement, support them through sensitive or high-pressure situations, and ensure programmes remain aligned with evolving business priorities. Alongside delivery, you will contribute to account development by bringing forward new ideas, identifying opportunities to expand existing briefs, and supporting new business pitches where required.
  • Internally, you will work in close partnership with senior colleagues to refine processes, improve workflow, and strengthen reporting and planning frameworks. You will also play an active role in supporting and developing more junior team members, setting standards, sharing knowledge, and helping to build a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • While the primary focus is on corporate and business communications, there may be opportunities to work across adjacent briefs where appropriate, offering variety and broader exposure.

The person

  • My client is looking for someone with significant agency experience in public relations or communications, ideally with a strong grounding in corporate, business, or reputation-led work. You will bring a proven ability to deliver results in fast-moving environments and to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of detail or quality.
  • You will be strategically minded but highly practical — comfortable developing plans and frameworks, yet equally willing to roll up your sleeves to write, pitch, problem-solve, and drive momentum day to day. Strong judgement, curiosity, and an instinct for news and storytelling are essential.
  • The ideal candidate will be confident working with senior clients, able to challenge constructively, and trusted to operate with a high degree of autonomy. Experience mentoring or informally leading others is important, as this role carries real influence over team standards and ways of working.
  • You should also be comfortable working with budgets, scopes of work, and performance metrics, and have a clear understanding of how communications activity delivers tangible value for clients.

What’s on offer

My client offers a competitive salary package, performance-related incentives, and a clear pathway for progression within the agency. The culture is ambitious but supportive, with a strong emphasis on trust, flexibility, and professional development. Ongoing training and learning are actively encouraged, and the agency is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where different perspectives are valued.
