Ryan Tubridy's first Late Late toy show drew the biggest audience of the past decade for RTE. The show, which aired six weeks ago, drew an average audience of 1.38m, and peaked at 1.5m. The figures from AGB Nielsen Media Research show that the Tubridy pipped his predecessor Gay Byrne for the top spot. However, Gaybo's second place was not for the Late Late Show at all, but for the first episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in October 2000. It pulled an average of more than 1.3m viewers. The third spot was taken by the controversial Republic of Ireland soccer game against France last November, which drew 1.27m viewers. Sports events featured heavily further down the last as well, with the Ireland v England rugby match in Croke Park in February 2007 drawing an audience of 1.01m. Last year's grand slam final with Wales was watched by 995,000 viewers. |
