Row as Luas ignores O2 venue name 2010-01-04

Management at the O2 has complained that the new Luas tram route to Dublin docklands does not use the proper name of the big music venue. The new line terminates at the door of the venue. The O2 phone company paid more than 20m euro for the naming rights of the venue, which is now widely known as O2. However, the Luas still uses the old name of the venue, The Point. A weekend report in the Sunday Tribune said managment at the venue had brought the issue up sveral times with the Rail Procurement Agency, which controls the Luas. It says the RPA had replied that it did not want its terminus named after a commercial provider. A spokesman for the RPA was unavailable for comment.
