Website Designer
Website Designer jobs require individuals with a talent for design and the patient and methodical personality of a programmer.
A Web Designer will be aware of how colours, illustrations, photographs and text will combine and best interact on a site. He / She will also understand the limitations of the programming languages in devising a design. The design and layout will also be dictated by ease of use considerations (usability). Throughout the design process, the designer will be cognisant of the fact that the end user will expect an instant understanding of the site, and should not be confused in its navigation. An emerging consideration is how the final site will be indexed by the major search engines – certain factors must be considered in the design and layout of a website if it is to work its way up the rankings of, for example, Google. Search Engine Optimisation (SOE) is now a major part of web design, and is best factored in from the very beginning of the design process.
The major programming language is HTML. This is a relatively simple, and non-dynamic language. Traditionally, designers have combined it with javascript to create some dynamic features on a site. Flash is used to create movement, transitions, and animations on websites. Many designers remain wary of Flash as it can increase the time required to load the site on the user’s browser. As many websites now interact with their users - for example: offer products or services for sale – languages that integrate with databases are increasingly used, such as ASP or PHP.
Starting Salaries for Web Designers usually range between EUR 20,000 and EUR 25,000 per annum. Mid Range Salaries usually range from EUR 25,000 to EUR 35,000, while Senior Salaries range upwards from EUR 35,000 +
