Media Planner

The essential aim of the Media Planner is to convey a client's message to the largest number of people at the lowest possible budget.
On careful analysis of the client’s product or service, consumers, and the advertising message that his / her agency has applied to it, the Media Planner will decide on the most appropriate media. A Media Planner will need to have a very strong understanding of how many people read particular newspapers or magazines, the most appropriate and visible outdoor media – public transport, location of fixed hoardings, etc. – listener ship and viewer figures for across all the radio and TV stations and how these figures vary between different shows and at different times of the day, the most appropriate and popular websites, and the most effective and economical ambient and below the line strategies (i.e leafleting, promotions etc). In all of these calculations the Media Planner must be also aware of the status of the consumers. Consumers are generally categorised as AB / C1 / C2 / DE / F1 / F2. ABC1’s are Ireland’s key consumer category.
Having planned a campaign across the various media and times, the media planner then liaises with the media buyer who will go on to negotiate the best possible deals with the selected media.
Starting Salaries for Media Buyers usually range between EUR 20,000 and EUR 25,000 per annum, and with experience can range up to between EUR 38,000 and EUR 42,000 per annum
