Journalist

Journalism

Journalism jobs are generally in print (newspapers & magazines), radio, television and online (e-zines and websites). A finished story can often be like the tip of an iceberg – the final product of many hours of research, canvassing and interviewing. Throughout the whole process a journalist must remain mindful of such factors as interviewee integrity, validity of research material, legal limitations, and of course, deadlines.
Necessary attributes for anyone considering a career in journalism are a determined and inquiring nature, and strong communication and presentation skills. It is essential for a good journalist to have an excellent command of written English, in grammar and delivery – an ability to convey information in a succinct and clear manner is what defines a good journalist. Typing skills are also important.
Many journalists who work in national broadcast media begin their careers in the smaller, often provincial, newspapers and radio stations.

A course in Journalism is the conventional first step in a journalist’s career.

Starting salaries for Journalists usually range from between EUR 20,000 and EUR 25,000 per annum, and can range up to EUR 45,000 and above for Mid Level to Senior Journalists.
