Advertising and Media Sales Executive


Advertising Sales jobs involve selling advertising in newspapers, in magazines, and also on the radio and television. This is generally telephone based work, and can involve cold calling companies and warm calling which is calling up previous clients or following up on enquiries and turning them into a sale. Advertising and Media Sales People will make an estimation of a company’s relevance to their publication or feature, and will be able to provide the prospective client with statistical data on readership, on ratios of new business to advertising spend, and will be able to advise customers on the dimensions, frequency and costs of an advert. When selling around a feature an advertising sales executive can sometimes offer the added incentive of editorial content for the client – often in the form of a quotation or an opinion from the client.
An accomplished Advertising Sales Executive will have a friendly and persuasive telephone manner – they will be patient and genuinely mindful of the client’s requirements. He / She will be able to work under pressure and be motivated to earn high levels of commission.
Salaries are generally paid as a base salary with commission. The combination of both is often referred to as On Target Earnings (OTE). A Sales Agent will often be required to make a minimum amount of sales in a month before they begin to earn commission on their sales. This can then often be structured in such a way that when they exceed certain bands or thresholds, the commission will increase; For example: 8% on all sales between 5 and 10 thousand euro per month / 10 % on all sales between 10 and 15 thousand euro per month, and 15% on all sales thereafter.
Starting Salaries usually range from between a basic of EUR 22,000 and EUR 25,000 per annum (OTE: €35,000), and with experience can range up to between a base of EUR €25,000 - €35,0000 per annum (OTE: €60,000) and up to a basic for senior of EUR 35,000 + and an OTE of €100,000.
